Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, revealed plans to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to advocate for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. He made this announcement during a visit to the Supreme Council of Nigeria Traditional Rulers in the Southeast.
Iwuanyanwu noted that other ethnic groups have falsely portrayed the Igbo’s intentions as a threat to national unity, leading to distrust from the government. He emphasized that the Igbo community holds significant investments, with a widespread presence across the nation.
The visit rekindled his determination to meet with Tinubu, addressing the issue of Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, which is contributing to insecurity in the Southeast. He expressed the need for peace and stability, suggesting that Kanu’s release would restore order and prevent opportunistic individuals from exploiting his situation.
Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe, the traditional ruler of Isiama ancient kingdom, Imo State, explained their aim to collaborate with Ohanaeze and secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release, as it would help address regional security concerns and promote cultural identity. They also plan to engage President Tinubu and other prominent figures to address issues of marginalization and the injustice surrounding Kanu’s continued detention, despite a court order for his release.
