The Appeal Court in Lagos State dismissed Tonye-Cole’s petition against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.
Tonye-Cole sought the Appeal Court’s intervention to instruct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him the victor in the March governorship election.
His argument centered on Fubara’s continued signing of documents as the State’s Accountant-General despite being nominated as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate. Additionally, he alleged election irregularities and other concerns.
Earlier, the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had dismissed the petition in October, citing the withdrawal of the APC, which backed Tonye-Cole, against Fubara’s win.
Tonye-Cole, who was not satisfied with the Tribunal’s judgment, approached the appellate court.
