On Thursday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared that all former governors and individuals facing corruption allegations would undergo investigation by the anti-graft agency.
ACE Aliyu Yunusa, the commission’s zonal commander, made this announcement during the commencement of a one-day engagement with Civil Society Organisations organized in Sokoto.
Yunusa underscored the EFCC’s determination to relentlessly pursue cases irrespective of the individuals involved, asserting that the agency will operate within legal frameworks. In Sokoto, he highlighted the agency’s ambition to liberate Nigeria from the grip of corruption, affirming that public support, especially from CSOs, is pivotal to achieving their mandate.
He further addressed the prevalent belief that former governors are beyond the EFCC’s reach, dispelling it by affirming that no individual, including past governors, will be shielded from investigation upon receipt of a petition. Yunusa urged the Nigerian public and organized entities to collaborate in eradicating corruption and other economic crimes for the nation’s progress.
