Former Kaduna Central Senator and human rights activist, Shehu Sani, likened merging the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with the Labour Party (LP) supporters is like fixing a Ferrari engine into a Peugeot vehicle. He expressed this view in a tweet posted on Thursday.
In his X (formerly Twitter) post, Sani remarked, “Merging PDP with the young, agile and restless Labour supporters will be like fixing a Ferrari engine into a Peugeot.”
This comment came amidst speculations about a potential merger between the PDP and the Labour Party. However, the Labour Party promptly refuted these rumors, urging Nigerians to disregard any information suggesting that the party was working on merging with another political entity.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, clarified in a statement that the party’s focus was on strengthening democracy, dismissing the reports as sensationalized by a section of the media to discredit the party.
He emphasized that there had been no discussion within the LP about merging with the PDP or any other party. Ifoh assured that once the party had its discussions on the way forward, they would provide adequate information to Nigerians.
