Starting from Friday, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun announced that there would be no movement of vehicles or of ships, canoes or other waterborne modes of transportation in Imo, Kogi or Bayelsa. This move is in line with the Inspector-General’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in these three states.
Furthermore, the Inspector-General has issued a prohibition on the activities of certain state security groups, including Ebubeagu and similar quasi-groups, during this period.
Given the riverine nature of these states, the Inspector-General, while addressing the press at Force Headquarters, revealed that both marine and gunboats have been deployed in these regions to enhance security.
In addition, the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the three states have been fortified with various security resources, including helicopters for aerial patrols.
