The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has slammed Senator Obinna Ogba, who served as the representative for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly for eight years, regarding his alleged intentions to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP has asserted that Ogba’s decision to leave the party is rooted in his inability to secure victory in the gubernatorial primaries in 2022.
Senator Ogba recently resigned from his PDP membership and expressed his interest in joining the APC in the state.
Mr. Augustine Nwazunku, the state chairman of the PDP, expressed his disapproval of Ogba in a statement provided to the press in Abakaliki on Sunday.
The statement conveyed, “Senator Obinna Ogba is engaging in a style of politics characterized by willful cynicism that lacks ethical considerations. He appears to have discarded the principles of honesty and is committed to a form of political behavior driven by self-indulgence.
“His decision to switch from PDP to APC can be attributed to his inability to secure victory in the PDP gubernatorial primaries in 2022. This is a clear demonstration of intentional political rebellion, anarchy, individualism, and self-centered political cultism.
“We, in the PDP, have chosen to move forward without being distracted by these individuals who are acting as fifth-columnists, but they are making their departure from the PDP to the APC a prolonged and theatrically orchestrated spectacle.
“It’s regrettable that individuals like Senator Ogba have allowed themselves to be manipulated as willing instruments in the disruption of Nigerian politics.
“After all, Ogba was a relatively unknown political figure before the PDP propelled him into various prominent positions at the state and national levels, culminating in his two-term tenure in the Senate from 2015 to 2023.”
