The Rivers State chapter’s executive body within the ruling All Progressives Congress has been sacked by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. Under the leadership of Abdullahi Ganduje, the NWC announced the formation of an interim committee responsible for overseeing the process of selecting new executives.
Two months earlier, certain party leaders, aligned with former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi and spearheaded by gubernatorial candidate Tonye Cole, expressed disappointment over what they perceived as President Bola Tinubu’s silent abandonment of their interests in favor of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies.
During a press conference held at the party secretariat, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, declared the forthcoming inauguration of committee members at the party’s headquarters on Friday.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Morka, accompanied by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Ladipo, disclosed the names of individuals aligned with Wike as members of the seven-person interim committee.
He specified, “Chief Tony Okocha will lead the caretaker committee as the chairman, and Eric Nwibani will serve as the Secretary. The official induction of committee members will occur at the party secretariat on Friday.”
Morka further clarified that this caretaker committee’s tenure would span six months until a permanent executive body for the Rivers State APC is duly elected.
