Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has pledged to serve as the governor for all Bayelsans, regardless of their party affiliations. He made this commitment while addressing the press at the Government House in Yenagoa, the state capital, shortly after being declared the winner of the state governorship election.
Governor Diri emphasized that the people of Bayelsa State were too few to be divided by politics or tribe. He expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support shown to him and his government, attributing the victory to the grace of the Almighty and the support of the people.
Diri acknowledged the efforts of everyone who voted for him, the leadership of the PDP, his campaign team, and supporters. Despite the victory, he urged temperance in celebration, noting that the collective will of a united people toward progress and a better future had prevailed.
The governor extended appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for providing a conducive environment for a free, fair, and credible poll. He also commended the professionalism of security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their roles in ensuring a successful electoral process.
Diri expressed gratitude to former President Goodluck Jonathan, his immediate predecessor Henry Dickson, and various political leaders for their support. He highlighted the importance of unity and inclusivity, reaffirming his commitment to fostering these values to achieve the shared goals and aspirations of the people of Bayelsa.
