Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State utilized the 7th edition of the Alaghodaro Economic Summit on Thursday to highlight his accomplishments during his seven-year tenure. The summit, marking the 7th anniversary of Governor Obaseki’s leadership, included a tour of key projects as part of the activities for the 2023 summit, themed “The Edo Story: Creating Shared Opportunities into the Future.”
In the State capital, Benin City, various interest groups, such as market women, religious leaders, youth groups, artisans, and journalists, joined the Governor on a tour of significant projects implemented by his administration. These projects, situated in Edo South Senatorial District, specifically in Oredo, Ikpoba Okha, Orhionmwon, and Ovia North East local government areas, received praise from diverse groups, including market women, civil societies, organized labor, and civil servants.
The tour encompassed the 6000 barrels per day Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company (ERPC) in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha, and the 2500 barrels per day Duport Refinery in Egbokor, Orhionmwon. Additionally, the groups visited ethanol plants by Greenhill Ethanol and Dufil Ethanol in Ikpoba Okha and Ovia North East, respectively.
Governor Obaseki emphasized that these modular refineries would address the fuel crisis and contribute to the state’s GDP. He also announced the imminent commissioning of two ethanol plants, highlighting their role in producing food-grade ethanol, creating employment, and supporting the manufacturing sector.
Other visited projects included the Ossiomo Power Plant, Edo Tech Park, Edo State College of Nursing Sciences, Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin Central Park, John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), Civil Service Infrastructure, Renovation of High Court Complex, Industrial Court Complex, Edo Production Hub, Sapele Road, Museum of West African Art (MOWWA), Edogis, Daisy Danjuma Centre, Golf Mews, Benin City Mall in Sapele Road, Edo Agric Hub, and Education Hub.
Residents noted the transformative impact of these projects on the state’s economic and environmental landscape. Asue Ighodalo, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Alaghodaro Economic Summit Limited, emphasized the summit’s role in shaping the state’s growth trajectory, providing a platform for public and private sector collaboration, and contributing to Edo’s development over the past seven years.
