Edo’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has announced his candidacy for the 2024 Governorship race in the State, affirming his determination to secure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the election.
Originally scheduled at Eterno Hotel on Aiguobasimwin Crescent, off Ikpokpan Road, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin for 8 am, Shaibu’s declaration faced opposition from allies of Governor Obaseki. These allies organized the fourth edition of a meeting for Obaseki’s Finish Well Group (FWG) at the same time and location, advocating for Asue Ighodalo, a Lagos-based lawyer, as the anointed aspirant for the PDP ticket.
Perceiving this as provocation, Shaibu relocated his declaration to the Pastoral Centre of St Paul’s Catholic Church on Airport Road, Benin.
Reflecting on his past endeavors, Shaibu asserted his commitment to the people, recalling his achievements in delivering numerous constituency projects both at the state and federal levels. Despite facing challenges, he expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Edo people, emphasizing his deep roots in the state.
With unwavering determination, Shaibu declared his intent to contest for the Governorship of Edo State under the PDP in the forthcoming 2024 elections, highlighting his confidence in the support of the people to elevate the state further.
He pledged his campaign’s foundation on five fundamental pillars crucial for Edo State’s progress and prosperity.
