A private jet carrying Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, crash-landed near Ibadan Airport in Oyo State on Friday night, as reported by Daily Trust. It remains unclear whether the minister or any of the occupants suffered injuries during the incident.
The aircraft had taken off from Abuja and was identified as a chartered Flint Short Aero HS 125 with the registration number 5N-AMM. The pilot had previously requested an extension from the control tower at 18:56, which was granted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). However, the plane ultimately landed approximately 50 meters short of the runway threshold and skidded into a bushy ditch nearby.
This mishap occurred following a travel warning issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) due to hazy weather conditions. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had also urged caution to pilots and airline operators due to the approaching dry season, which could bring hazardous weather conditions.
As of now, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
