On Thursday, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) announced its approval of the promotion of 58 lawyers to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria. The statement was issued by Ms. Hajo Bello, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC. This elevation of the 58 legal professionals was sanctioned during the 159th plenary session of the LPPC held on the same day. Notably, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, who also serves as the chairman of the committee, was present at this session.
During the meeting, Ms. Bello disclosed that, following careful consideration, the committee dismissed four petitions that had been filed against some of the applicants. She also mentioned that the swearing-in ceremony for the successful 58 applicants is scheduled for Monday, November 27, 2023.
It’s worth noting that the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is conferred upon legal practitioners in Nigeria who have demonstrated exceptional prowess in the legal field.
Among the 58 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria are notable names such as Funmi Falana, Felix Offia, Lawrence Falade, Kingsley Obamogie, Folashade Alli, Abiola Oyebanji, Bomo Agbebi, Daniel Uruakpa, Oseloka Osuigwe, Babatunde Adeoye, Babaseyi Joseph, Emmanuel Enoidem, Kehinde Aina, Ngozi Olehi, Aaron Okoroma, Ibrahim Angulu, Olayiwola Afolabi, Sule Shu’aibu, Abiodun Olaleru, Kazeem Sobaloju, and Shehu Abdullahi.
Additional appointees include Fidelis Mbadugha, Onyemaechi Adikwu, Ikechukwu Onuoma, Yakubu Philemon, Johnny Agim, Aliyu Ibrahim, Isaiah Bozimo, Prisca Ozoilesike, Hahaha Santana, Adedayo Adedeji, Adeola Adedipe, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, Musa Attah, Ayotunde Ogunleye, Olayemi Badewole, Babatunde Adetunji, and Alfred Atteh.
