Kano Appeal Court verdict: NNPP heads to Supreme Court

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) announced its intention to appeal the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, which overturned Governor Kabir Yusuf’s victory in Kano State.

The Appeal Court’s decision, nullifying the governor’s election on Friday, cited his purported lack of qualification to contest the March 18 poll, emphasizing that Governor Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP during the election.

Addressing journalists at a news conference in Abuja, Alhaji Abba Ali, the acting national chairman of NNPP, criticized the ruling, dismissing the claim that Yusuf was not affiliated with the party as misleading. He labeled the judgement a miscarriage of justice, highlighting that Yusuf had received a resounding mandate from the people of Kano State.

Ali mentioned that the party had already briefed its legal representatives on the matter and expressed faith in the judiciary’s credibility to rectify any misjudgment from the lower court.

Expressing shock and dismay, he pointed out the perplexity regarding Yusuf’s successful nomination on the INEC portal if he wasn’t endorsed through the NNPP membership process.
