The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested banker Awulu Friday Ayegba for embezzling a substantial amount of N14,850,000.00 from one of the bank’s customers.
Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended Ayegba, as reported in a statement issued on Thursday by Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the Commission. According to the EFCC statement, Ayegba stands accused of conducting unauthorized withdrawals totaling N14.8 million from a customer’s account during the period between June 7 and July 21, 2023.
It was revealed that Ayegba used counterfeit passport photographs, national identification numbers, and phone numbers to create bank accounts under the names of two unregistered companies, namely Sulib Complex & Investments and Seamless & More Global. These accounts were used as conduits for withdrawing the funds.
Furthermore, the anti-corruption agency’s intelligence uncovered Ayegba’s falsification of documents that belonged to an individual named Nduka Obinna. These fabricated documents were used to fraudulently apply for a loan amounting to N40 million, with the intention of eluding justice and leaving the country with his family.
The EFCC has stated its intention to bring Ayegba to court as soon as their investigations are concluded.
